Pyschiatrists

Psychiatrists are doctors of medicine, who specialise in mental disorders, working in private offices or in clinics. They are involved in the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of patients with a variety of disorders, from mild cases of anxiety to severe cases of schizophrenia.

Typically the role of a Psychiatrist is talking with patients to gain an understanding of their disorders and discovering any under lying problems, by analyzing patients and their behaviours, psychiatrists can diagnose and prescribe treatment. Often this involves discussions, asking questions, performing mental health assessments and other diagnostic tests. Information is also sourced from the patient’s families and mental health workers, to build patients’ records.

Interaction with patients is usually carried out either as a one to one scenario or in some cases as a group discussion. These can be intense and emotional, and so need to be conducted in the strictness of confidence and professionalism.
