Session Workers
Session Workers work with young people who are in care. It is a demanding role, where many of the looked after children will exhibit challenging behaviour and are very vulnerable. You must know how to deal with all types of children’s behaviours, and be able to follow the correct and accepted procedures in dealing with the challenges that these behaviours present. Sessions will be very varied depending on the child you are supporting and the time of your shift. For example many of the sessions will be one to one’s where you may take the child out on an sporting or leisure activity.
The focus of such care is to support children and young adolescents to ensure that they get the most out of the opportunities being provided for learning and development. Your role will often involve taking service users out of their care environment, enabling them to experience activities that others take for granted. For the younger service users it is likely you will conduct play sessions to encourage children’s learning and interaction skills.
